I'm really excited to share with you my very first "Inspiration of the Month" - The wonderful Val Egnot. Val inspires me for many reasons, namely her very positive outlook on life, commitment to a healthy lifestyle and beautiful way with people. If you believe that age is a barrier when it comes to exercising - this ones for you!
I first met Val a few years ago at our local gym. The long limbed blonde bombshell was hard to miss with her infectious zest for life and bubbly personality. Val is regularly at the gym before sunrise lifting some pretty serious weights and stretching out her enviable pins. Always immaculate, Val takes great pride in her appearance.
Val is 79 years young, a mother of three and grandmother of eight. She has dabbled in modelling and ballet, and describes herself as "strong and capable of doing anything for myself". I recently asked Val a few questions about her life - a big thank you to Val - I'm sure many will be inspired.
**Where do you find your daily motivation to exercise?**
I don't need motivation for my daily workout, I just do it as part of my life - I enjoy the buzz! My Mother was still active and walking the hills up into her 80's - so perhaps I got it from her.
**What are your main reasons for exercise? Has it been a life long habit or formed recently?**
I am vain! I want to look as good as I can. When I exercise by stretching, balancing, and lifting weights it all helps make me who I am. I have always been active, I've played competitive tennis for approx 44yrs and the gym workouts with weights have kept me strong and flexible.
**You have an infectious happy personality and positive outlook on life - where do you draw your inspiration from?**
I enjoy talking to people sharing their stories having a bit of fun and laughter with them - we are all on the same journey.
**Do you follow any other lifestyle habits to stay healthy/what is your philosophy?**
I am a bit of a bore but yes I eat and sleep well and no alcohol or smoking. We make our choices and this works for me.
**Any tips for those new to working out or changing their lifestyle?**
Decide what you want to change - do you want to gain or lose weight? Do you want something just for you? Join a gym that can help desing a program especially for you and your needs. Even if you need to get out of the house and meet new people - do it!
**Do you have a motto that you live by?**
Keep caring about other people.
And I certainly can say that Val is one of the most caring and genuine people you will meet. Thank you for being an inspiring person in my life!
